An Occasional Chair may be named so, as it is only used occasionally. This blog looks at the history of the Occasional Chair, how its evolved and how history still influences design today.
Born in the 1600’s the wingback chair was designed to be sat in front of the fireplace, while the wings on the side were intended to prevent drafts from cutting through your little seated area of warmth. The wide stand out of the wingtips was to keep the breeze off our ears and neck.
