About Giopato & Coombes
Cristiana Giopato and Christopher Coombes founded the Giapato & Coombes studio in 2006. The Italian Christiana and British Christopher first collaborated in 2004 with their “In Dust We Trust” exhibition. Since then, the pair have gone on to create countless designs, and have been featured in magazines and publications across the globe.

A few years back, Giopato & Coombes began exploring the idea of a more fluid design approach. This led to the duo expanding their scope, tackling not only design, but also the production of their lighting designs.

Giopato & Coombes lighting designs are truly unique and captivating, with pieces that command intrigue and attention. Their designs are sculptures that capture and emit light.

The Giopato & Coombes website is filled with words describing the creation process the duo complete, and the reasoning behind their work.

“Passion is our only compass,” they write.

“This passion pushes us to take the risk to choose new technologies, to create something unconventional not seen before even if at first glance you have the impression it belongs in your past. This passion keeps us alive!”

Bolle
Those looking to add a smooth, round feature lighting piece to their home may be interested in the stunningly extravagant Bolle design. According to Giopato & Coombes, Bolle is a “collection of lamps in transparent glass, where the illuminating brass bulb is suspending between the spheres”. Light reflects off the curved surfaces of the piece, creating a magically stunning effect. The cluster of glass spheres is reminiscent of bubbles, and each one is hand-blown by Venetian artisans. The Bolle light is available in a variety of finishes, including brushed brass, brushed bronze, blackened brass, and brushed nickel. This design also comes in different sizes, from four glass bubbles through to 34 bubbles. There are also wall and floor variants available.

Bolle Frosted
The Bolle Frosted design has the same spherical design as Bolle, but with frosted, rather than clear glass. Giopato & Coombes writes that while the Bolle design plays with emptiness, “Bolle Frosted work with the positive volume of the spheres, creating satellites that seem to grow and move together through the space”. Bolle Frosted is available in the same finishes as Bolle, and comes in varying sizes from four through to 34 bubbles. Unlink the clear Bolle, this design is not available as a wall or floor option.

Dewdrops
If you’re after a stunning light feature to place above the kitchen table, or in the entrance hallway of your home, take a look at Giopato & Coombes’ Dewdrops design. Christiana says the piece was inspired by a night stroll she and Christopher took where they saw dewdrops on blades of grass, reflecting the moonlight above. It was this moment that inspired them to create “a balancing mobile lighting structure which suspends dewdrops in the night”. The Dewdrops light is available in either a five or seven dew drops. Each variant also features two spotlights that are hidden within brass cones and emit light upwards.

Flauti
Flauti lights are gorgeously different, and available in a range of different colours. Those looking for a simple, monochrome look may wish to select the Flauti pendant in grey, while those after a more colourful feature may prefer a colourful variant. Flauti is available in either singular lights or a collection of lights that form to create a chandelier. Each glass module is made from hand blown Murano glass, making every piece unique from the last. Speaking on the design, Giopato & Coombes says that “the traditional Muranese colours evoke the sunset f the Venetian Lagoon, a cornerstone of romance set in a world of technological advancement”.

Gioielli
Those after a unique lighting feature that wow guests should view Giopato & Coombes’ Gioielli design. This brushed brass wall light is a “direct reference and tribute to the painstaking work of the goldsmith”, with precious “gem” features that are blown Murano glass with a “battuto finish. The brass sculpture and emerald green gem can bring a wonderful pop of colour to a space that needs a little something extra. There are also variants of Gioielli with simple white and brass features.

Soffio
The simple Soffio is a lovely lamp with a minimalist elegance. The glass sphere that surrounds the light itself floats in the air like a soap bubble. This lamp is “characterised by the contrast between the evanescence of one blow that generates the sphere of glass and the solidity of the structure that supports it”. Soffio is available in a range of finishes that include brushed brass, brushed bronze, blackened brass, and brushed nickel. It has wall, floor, and ceiling variants, so you can choose the right type for your home.

Soffio Frosted
Love the Soffio design but looking for a frosted glass alternative? You’re in luck! As the name suggests, the Soffio Frosted is a frosted version of the Soffio design. Giopato & Coombes write that “as for Bolle, the Soffio Frosted inverts the perception of the Soffio project”. Soffio Frosted variants are available in the same finishes as Soffio.

Softspot
Softspot is a sleek, minimalist lamp. The Softspot design is reminiscent of tealight candles, with a warm, romantic vibe. This lamp’s LED warm white bulb emits “75% light downwards for focused direct lighting and 25% upwards for low indirect lighting”, creating a soft atmosphere. The light can be positioned to create the ideal lighting needed for a moment. It is available in a brushed nickel, blackened brass, brushed bronze, or brushed brass finish, and has vertical wall, horizontal wall, and pendant variations.
