What is Geca?
Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA), runs Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit, multi-sector eco-labelling program and is the only Australian member with GENICES recognition from the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). GECA’s scheme enables consumers to choose from thousands of certified products and services and have confidence that they have a lower impact on the environment and human health and address important social considerations.
This means that many of your favourite Mattiazzi products have been rigorously assessed for their impact on the environment over their life cycle and are now a safer option for you, your family and your colleagues.
Mattiazzi already sets targets in order to satisfy a defined and challenging list of sustainable aims such as No emissions (volatile organic compounds) into the atmosphere, No hazardous waste No landfill waste, Total use of 100% clean energy, 100% of the company-owned buildings with high energy saving, Mattiazzi obtained the environmental certification ISO 14001:2004. And now a Geca certification to add to this impressive eco portfolio.
GECA certified products offer a number of benefits such as, Better for the environment, it avoids illegal harvest of wood and fibre for raw materials, emissions to air and water are heavily restricted, products must be easy to recycle or dispose of in an environmentally responsible way, replacement parts must be made available to users, use only GECA certified (or equivalent) fabrics and adhesives (Level A only), better for human health, restrictions or bans on known carcinogens, mutagens or other specific harmful substances, volatile organic compounds limited (Level A only), better for ethical considerations, workers can expect fair pay, equal opportunity, and a safe working environment and no unsubstantiated claims (green-washing).
