Using Cranes in a Bondi Penthouse (and why access is important)

The brief was not unusual for HG.  Furnish a newly renovated penthouse in Bondi Beach with both indoor and outdoor products.

What was unusual was the accessibility of the apartment.  Built atop a historic existing art deco building, the apartment was an addition to the 1920’s building and boasted 3 bedrooms and a generous balcony.  The apartment was accessed by either an old stairwell or a newly fitted passenger lift.

The team at HG had a choice – create custom made furniture in small pieces (sometimes this is necessary and possible) or access the apartment via the rooftop.  We chose the rooftop.

Permission for these tricky furniture installations has to be granted by local councils and body corporate.  Once obtained, a crane company needs to be consulted and they review the building and surrounding areas. Once this is finalised, the action begins and all products have to be adequately packaged to protect them during their perilous journey to the rooftop.

All in all, Homeware Gallery provided sofas, dining tables, dining chairs, bar stools, bedroom furniture including bedsides, office chairs, rugs and entertainment units.

For the outdoor space, we were careful to choose furniture that was fit for purpose and for the environment.  Exposed to the Bondi Beach sea air and the sun, we chose outdoor furniture suitable for the environment and largely maintenance free items.  An outdoor sofa, armchair and ottoman by Rausch Classics were chosen for one viewingarea, and a custom-made outdoor table with aluminium outdoor chairs by Fast completed the dining area.

The final results were as spectacular as the view and HG worked closely with the many teams required to coordinate such a move.
