What a Marbleous idea.
The current fashion of solid marble has evoked some really creative pieces in furniture.
Finished marble is result of the raw material which has been gathered from the earth. Marble is made from a combination of sand, soda lime and silica. The primary component is sand and granular particles of disintegrated rock.
Marble is a highly durable product and needs minimal care to maintain its beauty. Every marble piece is unique – no piece will have the same shades or patterns.
Calacutta is from the Carrara region in Italy – also where Carrara marble is from. The difference between the two is that Calacutta marble is whiter (in comparison to Carrara) with bolder more dramatic veining. Carrara tends to be greyer in colour with softer veining.
One of our brands, Studio Pip uses both marbles in two of their coffee and side table ranges. Trio Marble Coffee Table uses the Carrara Marble Top in a honed finish. Paired with a timber base these natural raw materials are a nice contrast and complement each other well. The new Lyla table on the other hand combines Calacutta Skurro marble top with the base made of steel that can be powder coated in any colour.
Marble care tip: Whilst it is an easy material to maintain It is important to wipe any spills immediately with a clean cloth to avoid staining. Other ways to help the longevity of your marble is to also use table runners, place mats and coasters to reduce the chances of marking and damaging the marble.
It is very important not to use acidic, lemon or vinegar based cleaners, a mild soapy solution will do the trick, but remember to rub the marble dry. Don’t drag your table as it will stress the frame. Avoid knocking your table as this may chip or scratch the marble.
