These circular forms create an external frame that supports a fully webbed seat and back, replacing bulk foam and upholstery with a lighter, more efficient construction. The result is a chair that feels generous and enveloping while maintaining a sleek, architectural presence.
Designer Chris Martin describes Astro as his response to the contemporary club chair: “I like the idea of a generous, enveloping chair, but I wanted to make one with a lighter look and feel. Replacing large volumes of fabric and foam with an elegant tube frame seemed to be the answer to me.”
